Benefits of vitrafine™ in the Glass Batch
The use of a slag additive in the glass batch was introduced several decades ago. As a pre-calcined source of SiO2 and CaO for the glass manufacturer, use of vitrafine™ proves to be more effective over carbon/sulfate systems particularly at high furnace pull rates or high cullet levels.
vitrafine™ reduces the salt cake levels and therefore the SOx emission concerns are lessened by formulating equivalent redox batches.
vitrafine™ further decreases energy consumption that improves melting and fining times potentially reducing NOx, SOx and further emission issues.
The concerns in vitrafine™ of fused grain alumina and silicon carbide particles in the product are addressed with the immediate water quenching involvement of the granulation process.
The turbulence in the process and immediate solidification of the different elements in the slag tend to provide a unique separation of the slag and contaminants which later can be separated by size or specialized magnet equipment.
Use of vitrafine™ qualifies for US Building Council LEED Credits
